Started surveying this site (which can't be seen while surveying other Totten sites). Started because other surveyors thought there might be activity here and after the last Totten area surveys walked around the bend and found a couple of holes close to the top of the cliff and first 1 pg flew out of that area and then another pg flew out of the area. Could not see if they came out of the holes or the grass.
While walking to survey site, 2 Barn Owls flew from the large burrow in Site A-South. While surveying A-North, crows and a raven were chattering (like they do when harassing a raptor) about 50 feet behind the bluff.
7:10 low tide. 7:20 can see 6 pg near the Legacy Site but none at A, B or C or to the north. 7:05 large white owl with brown eyes perched inside cliff burrow in Asouth. Leslie Sikora (colony lead) note: surveyor wouldn't be able to faithfully discern what's in front of Legacy versus site C so changed language to near (not at) Legacy
2 pg at site before survey in h20 close to shore. Both flew off as observer approached. 8:30 One returned with gunnel but did not deliver. At 8:40 the neighbor came to visit and pg stayed away. At 8:50 or 9:10 (same incident after survey) as colony observers were standing on the tower a pg with a fish flew to burrow are of ANorth and returned to water after 1 minute without a fish. Believe there is an active burrow - Leslie Sikora.
5 pg at begining. 1 came around at 7:45 and bobbed in water when fished. Long times under water then flew away at 7:55 emptyhanded. 8:25 one came back with gunnel but did not deliver by 8:30. - doubt he could see me.
disturbance - Blue heron (8:02AM - 8:24AM)
Heron was standing on shore near the A North burrow when I began survey. PIGU was floating off shore about 100' with sculpin in its mouth. Once heron flew off, PIGU made delivery to the burrow within 5 minutes, 8:29AM
Tide too high to observe from anywhere but stair tower. Very placid water, no PIGUs visible anywhere in the colony, specifically none near the A North burrow. This is 2nd week in a row no PIGUs visible in colony during survey times.
