Non-burrow activity
In between visiting the burrows, there was a lot of synchronized flying across the water in front of the bluff. During the first half hour, there was almost constant calling among the guillemots. They made several passes by the active burrows without entering.
survey.note -
Weather
It was mostly sunny, with some clouds, light to no wind, and no rain. The tide was falling, starting at very high when we walked to the site.

Conditions

survey.note -
Eagles
Two eagles were above the bluff when we got there, probably attending a nest because they both landed in the same tree and were no longer visible. They called occasionally and at some point they left silently. There was no noticeable effect on the guillemots.
survey.note -
Missed burrow visit
At 8:05 one guillemot flew out of a burrow but we missed which one.
survey.note -
Sculpin holding behavior
At 8:22 one guillemot was noticed holding a sculpin in its bill. It never let go of the fish, but did dip the fish in the water. It was definitely still holding the sculpin at 8:49. At 8:54 two guillemots flew into burrow 5, and this one may have been one of the two, but it was not clear. After the burrow visit, we could not see one on the water holding a sculpin, so we think that this may have been a fish delivery.
survey.note -
Fly-bys
8:29 two guillemots flew past burrow 2 but swerved away.
8:49 two guillemots flew towards shore and swerved off.
survey.note -
Crows
There were several crows around a tree down the shoreline calling loudly in the middle of the survey, not noticeably disturbing the guillemots. Juvenile crows were part of the calling.
survey.note -
Little Bluff
On our way to and from the site we flushed one guillemot from Little Bluff, seemingly from the right burrow with wire stuffed in it.
survey.note -
Burrow exit
The guillemot that entered burrow 4 at 8:34 exited the burrow at 8:43.

Ledge sitting
3 guillemots were ledge sitting when we arrived, 8:16 one more arrived, 8:17 one left, 8:18 one arrived, 8:39 one left, 8:50 one arrived and left, 8:54 two left, 8:55 last one left.
survey.note -
Little Bluff
As we walked past, going to and leaving the site, one guillemot exited a burrow at Little Bluff, the burrow with mesh half-covering it. Three guillemots were on the shore when we approached, and two were close by in the water.
survey.note -
Guillemot holding a fish
At 8:35 we noticed a guillemot holding a gunnel, dragging it through the water. It held the fish even when it flew farther out on the water, and we did not see when it stopped holding the fish.
survey.note -
Weather
Sunny, no clouds.
survey.note -
Unidentified visits
As we approached the site, two guillemots flew from a burrow(s) that we could not see at the time.

disturbance - Large animal splash (7:50 - 7:54)
()
We didn't catch sight of the animal well enough to positively identify it, but there had been a seal nearby at the beginning of the survey, so we suspect that it was the seal. It made a loud splash possibly by breaching 3 times. The guillemots became restless, flying to different spots on the water.

Little Bluff
We did not see any guillemots around little bluff as we passed. At 8:45 four were in the water around Little Bluff.

Fish - holding
At 8:33 a guillemot was seen holding a fish and dipping it in the water.
survey.note -
White guillemot
One of the guillemots gathered out on the water is mainly white, like the picture in a field guide of an immature or non-breeding individual.
survey.note -
Guillemots gathered
Throughout most of the survey the guillemots gathered in a few groups far out on the water, maybe because of the eagle and seal hanging around. Also the seal breached and splashed four times.

Little Bluff
We observed a visit to the burrow at Little Bluff and a guillemot that had been holding a fish delivered it to that burrow as well.
survey.note -
Seal
A seal made several appearances, maybe accounting for the guillemots ledge-sitting, floating far out on the water, and otherwise avoiding the water near the shore.
survey.note -
Ledge-sitting
3 ledge-sat near burrow 1. 2 visible at the edge of #3's entrance at the start of the survey, one went deeper at 8:06 so we counted it as a visit. Burrow 10 had a guillemot rump visible blocking the entrance. 2 ledge-sat under #5 on root. 1 ledge-sat next to #6.

There were several boats on the water during the survey time, mainly fishing. The guillemots did not seem bothered by them.

A juvenile peeked out and chirped for a few minutes near the beginning of the survey time. Later, two guillemots came out of the burrow and one disappeared down a heretofore unnoticed burrow entrance next to #10. The juvenile came out of #10 and an adult that was perched on the ledge in front of it went in. At 8:42, two guillemots left #10.
